Exhibition: The Stone Theatre

Exhibition: The Stone Theatre

We are proud to present to you an exhibition of works by four renowned artists, Colin Fraser, Yuri Krotov, Peter Kuhfeld starting on Friday the 25th of May.

A good friend of the gallery recently asked us to help collaborate with her in a space called The Stone Theatre, in Waterloo. We were naturally a bit apprehensive, we do not usually set up exhibitions outside of our gallery but considering our friendship we agreed to have a look at what The Stone Theatre is all about.

Firstly, the thing that strikes you most about The Stone Theatre is the wonderful stone on show, and while the ends may be commercial the imagery is of a different kind. The stone really does leave one thinking that it is the first step in the potential of stone carving.

In fact there are one or two carved stone sculptures smattered through the area, one is left with the impression of a sculptors dream meets modern art gallery rather than commercial space for the trade of stone. With this in mind we agreed to collaborate in the space - to bring some art to the walls while the floors are set to host a scene of carved wood and stone.

In association with Acorn International and The Stone Theatre

We would like to invite you to view an exhibition of four renowned figurative artists: Colin Fraser, Yuri Krotov, Edward Beale and Peter Kuhfeld at

The Stone Theatre, Newnham Terrace, Hercules Road, Waterloo, London, SE1 7DR

From Friday the 25th of May, 2012.

Exhibition: T. W. Quinn

By Jason Petley

From Thursday, the 17 of November to Friday, the 2 of December

We are proud to present to you an exhibition of recent works by T. W. Quinn, from Thursday the 17th of November to Friday the 2nd of December, 2011.

A life dedicated to art? Yes, and a heart and soul, too. As this exhibition opens he will have just reached the grand age of 93, but in his rambling, light-filled studio in the Dordogne, Tom Quinn continues to paint every day, “while the light lasts” - depicting in beautifully soft, chalky hues the world around him - busy cafés, bustling markets, intimate interiors, a game of boules, dappled sunlight in a summer garden and colour-splashed picnics by the river. Impressionist, personal observations of la France profonde, executed with his brushes but painted with his heart and soul.

In the late 1940s Tom attended the Camberwell School of Art, London and was fortunate to study under such tutors as Lawrence Gowing, as well as Victor Pasmore and William Coldstream, founders of the celebrated Euston Road School.

Given his special talent and with the benefit of such teaching, it is hardly surprising that Tom has worked all his life as a painter. Both he and his fellow artist and friend, Roy Petley, have certainly come a long way, though, since the days in the early '70s when they used to hang their work, while the daylight lasted, on the railings at Green Park. They have remained the closest of friends since those heady times: a wonderful testament to the enduring power of art.
