One hundred and forty years have passed between the inception of Impressionism and the oeuvres of Yuri Krotov. Is there in this the suggestion of irreverence for the stylistic imagery of the Impressionists, or rather does the existence of Yuri Krotov inspire us with the vitality of his canvases – works which makes possible an extraordinary insight into nature, marine and the figure?
Krotov’s Impressionistic vision is rather more severe than say, Monet’s watery lilies, or Boudin and Jonkind’s marine studies. His warmth however, is not. Measured by the luminous phenomenon of light – his dense brush strokes create the undeniable image of Impressionism. Yuri looks at the world and responds with shimmering light and colour.
I hope that these exceptional paintings by Yuri Krotov will delight you as they have me.
